CAPTAIN BEANY CELEBRATES 25TH Ju-BEAN-lee!

Can you believe it PT Magnet readers! I shall be celebrating my 25th BEAN-A-THON this month!
Yes indeed, baked bean devotees, mild mannered Barry Kirk immersed himself into the Guinness Book of Records with his wacky 100 hour half-baked stint for four days and nights at the Aberavon Beach Hotel, way back in September 1986!
Thanks to many numerous sponsors who made the full blown baked bean bath a possibility, we managed to raise £1,500 for a mini bus appeal on behalf of local charity - EVERYBODY'S GATEWAY CLUB. My, how time flies eh folks! Twenty five years gone and where has it all 'bean'!
Needless to say, that entire event changed my life irreparably. The concept of conceiving an orange baked crusader from another planet was the defining moment in Barry's life! Still going strong after all these years, and with all your generous help, we have managed to raise over £100,000 for local, national and international causes. Well done to you all! Dare I say ... another 25th may be on the cards! Nah! Most probably end up in a superhero old folks home with other has 'bean' superheroes! :)

Neath/Port Talbot's Got Talent GRAND FINAL

A great night of evening entertainment proved to be a most charitable resounding success as ten talented artistes performed in front of an enthusiastic audience during the recent Neath/Port Talbot's Got Talent GRAND FINAL! sponsored by Fairwood Fabrications, held at the Seaside Social & Labour Club on Saturday 6th August 2011, in aid of Ty Hafan & Ty Olwen hospices.
Local singers and bands took to the stage, with local compere Captain Beany at the helm who presided over the evenings entertainment! The orange baked crusader was assisted by aid of his formidible judging panel crew whom paid some complimentary quotes and positive suggestions throughout the night! The opening act, Breakout from Bridgend roused the audience with their first song on the evening, and thus followed by singing acts ranging from age eight to an eighty-six year old! Special mentions all round to talent participants, Gwen Davies, Curtis Howe, Jessica Eckersall, Emma Watkins, Glen Parkhouse, Jasmine Leigh, Daniel Price, Estelle Eley and Where Corals Lie.
Overall, competition was very competitive and the winners decisively were - Jasmine Leigh (1st), Daniel Price (2nd) and Estelle Eley (3rd). Commendations to Mrs Iris Eley who supplied the gorgeous buffet and to local D.J David James who provided the evenings musical entertainment! A grand final total of £400 was raised through ticket proceeds, raffle and auction on the night!
Many congratulations to Ms.Paige King, Face of Swansea, for her organisational and promotional assistance.

CONGA WITH THE CAPTAIN!

The 'CONGA WITH THE CAPTAIN' was a most hearty success on the Sunday 24th July in aid of the British Heart Foundation Cymru charity. Although the weather was cloudy and downcast, we all had a great time meandering along the Aberavon Beach promenade, suitably accompanied by Neath Port Talbot Deputy Mayor, Mr. Jeffrey Dinham and Neath Port Talbot Deputy Mayoress, Mrs. Brenda Dinham!
The admiral sum of money raised by means of raffle, collection and registration entry exceeded well over £300! Special accolade tributes go to the Four Winds Hotel's resident D.J Mark Langdon, local regional radio station, Mountain FM, and Port Talbot Magnet's very own local roving reporter, Rachel Howells!
On a very personal note, I wish to thank Mr. Robert Stone, of Sound Surgery Productions, who aptly filmed the entire Conga from start to finish!

THE BEAST OF BRYN ... TAMED! ...(JUST)

Phew! So sorry to have taken this so long to update my Port Talbot Magnet blog readers recently, but it's 'bean' all go for this particular baked crusading superhero! Firstly, this oranged hued 'runner bean' joined in with the 'BEAST OF BRYN' fun runs and dispite the inclemental weather, the 100 plus fool hardy footrunners braced the vales and hills of the welsh mountain side.
Dressed apropiately in tangerine lycra body suit, cape, tights and orange shoes, we cantered along with the the 'BRYNITES' villagers cheering us along! Needless to say, the case of 'follow the leader' enabled this half-baked runner to pursue the longer of the pair of races and I duly finished the 6.8 milage with another 2 miles ... and I didn't come last!
I'm ever so pleased to say that my visitation for sponsorship at the nearby Bryn Primary School was not entirely all in vain! I am currently awaiting with bated breath to find out how much was duly raised. Watch this space!
By the way, congratulations to Shaun Tobin & Graham Rowland and organisers who made this race possible and to all corporate sponsors and companies who contributed financially.
